Guardian Alarm Upgrades Exclusively to Digital Radio Alarm Transmitters
On February 8th 2008 the FCC will be eliminating the requirement that all cellular carriers provide AMPS (Advanced Mobile Phone Service, also known as Analog Cellular Service). This requirement elimination deadline is in the near future.
Your analog radio alarm transmitter is affected by this industry change and will have to be upgraded to a digital radio transmitter prior to the deadline. Some advantages to the new technology include:
• Multiple signal paths to the Central Station providing faster more accurate and reliable signals.
• Battery life up to 7 days as compared to 12 to 24 hours.
• Utilizing a private network that will not be affected by future FCC regulation changes.
The charge to Guardian Alarm customers for this new radio alarm unit is $249.00. This includes all labor and is much less than Guardian’s actual costs. We are now scheduling appointments, so please call our radio conversion hotline at 800-782-9688. For additional information, please see the below FAQ.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What is the AMPS?
A. AMPS (Analog Mobile Phone Service) is the method of alarm signal transmission that is used by the current radio portion of your alarm system.
Q. Why does this affect my radio alarm transmitter?
A. Cellular alarm transmitters, like many other data transmission devices, have used some of the bandwidth available on the AMPS network in order to transmit information from point to point. When the network is deactivated, this method of transmission will no longer exist.
Q. What is involved in converting my radio alarm transmitter?
A. In most cases, the actual process is very simple. A normal conversion will involve removing the analog cellular transmitter and replacing it with the new Digital private network alarm transmitter. In some cases, the transmitter may need to be relocated within the home or business in order to achieve maximum signal strength on the new frequency.
Q. When will this take place?
A. In areas that are currently offering digital cellular service, such as larger metropolitan areas, the analog network may be shut off as soon as we reach the deadline. In the less populated areas, the cellular carriers may opt to continue providing analog service until the area is completely covered by digital service. We will be sending out a notification of when we will be in your area doing conversions.
Q. How much will this cost me?
A. We are doing everything we can to keep the cost of this conversion to a minimum. It is necessary, however, for us to cover a portion of the cost of the new equipment and to hire the employees needed to administer this large project and to complete all the required conversions before the deadlines. We will begin offering these conversions at $249.00, including labor, for the new digital private network communicators.
Q. What if I have a problem or a question?
A. Call 1-800-STAY-OUT (1-800-782-9688) and our representatives will address your questions or concerns 24 hours a day.
